Community in Motion: Celebrating Inclusion at the Autism Awareness Walk

True community is built on understanding, and on Saturday, April 4, the Metro Atlanta community demonstrated that strength at Columbia High School. From 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., families, youth, and community partners gathered for the 2026 Autism Awareness Walk—a day defined by celebration, support, and solidarity.

The Power of Shared Experience

The day began with a powerful foundation of storytelling. We were honored to hear from community leaders and, most impactfully, from mothers who shared their personal journeys. These stories provided more than just insight; they offered a sense of unity and encouragement for families navigating similar paths, proving that no one in our community walks alone.

Walking for Solidarity

The walk itself was a vibrant display of inclusion. Following the opening remarks, participants joined together to promote awareness and acceptance across the Columbia High campus. The energy remained high throughout the afternoon with:

  • Field Day Activities: Creating a space for youth to engage, play, and laugh.

  • Resource Sharing: Meaningful fellowship where families could exchange support and community resources.

  • Community Connection: Delicious food and music that fostered a welcoming environment for everyone.

Fostering a More Inclusive Future

The Autism Awareness Walk served as a beautiful reminder that when we raise awareness, we foster acceptance. At Girls Inc. of Greater Atlanta, we are committed to celebrating every individual and ensuring that all families feel empowered, supported, and heard.
