From weeks of rehearsal to everyday acts of kindness.
August gave girls at the Marietta Center opportunities
to practice confidence in two different settings:
through everyday character development activities
and in front of supporters at Girls Inc. of Greater
Atlanta’s 50th Anniversary Gala.
01 / Onstage
Preparing to share their voices
Several Marietta Center girls spent weeks preparing an
expressive performance for the gala. Rehearsals went
beyond learning their parts. Participants worked on
projection, stage presence, timing, and teamwork as
they prepared to share their voices with an audience.
Their performance celebrated growth, confidence,
community, and the impact of Girls Inc. For our center,
seeing the girls carry their preparation onto the
stage was a meaningful part of the anniversary celebration.

Practice became a moment to share their voices.

Putting character into practice
Throughout August, girls also explored confidence,
kindness, respect, emotional intelligence, critical
thinking, and self-advocacy. Scenarios, movement,
group conversations, and creative activities gave
them opportunities to practice these qualities.
Participants considered real-life situations,
discussed how they might respond, and explained
the reasoning behind their choices. Listening
to one another introduced different perspectives
and encouraged girls to think about how their
decisions affect others.
Onstage and in the classroom, these experiences gave
girls room to speak up, work together, and learn from
one another. As the program year continues, we will
keep creating opportunities for girls to practice
those skills and recognize their own strengths.
