One Move at a Time: Problem-Solving and Encouragement Across Our Centers

This April, our youth programming was defined by two powerful themes: the grit required to solve complex problems and the confidence gained from community support. Across our Marietta and KIPP WAYS sites, students proved that whether they are tackling a world-famous puzzle or preparing for the road ahead, they have the leadership and support needed to succeed.

Mastering the Cube in Marietta

At the Marietta Center, our middle school girls took on a challenge that required equal parts logic and patience. In a workshop led by talented teen volunteers, the girls were introduced to the art of solving the Rubik’s Cube.

What began as a colorful curiosity quickly transformed into an intensive lesson in perseverance and critical thinking. The engagement was palpable as the girls memorized complex strategies and algorithms. The results were nothing short of incredible, with some participants reaching the elite milestone of solving the cube in under 30 seconds! This peer-led mentorship served as a vital reminder that leadership comes in many forms, and our girls left the session feeling empowered to tackle any challenge, one move at a time.

A Special Delivery: Cox Cares at KIPP WAYS

While our Marietta students were mastering logic, our youth at KIPP WAYS were receiving a different kind of boost—one focused on the heart. Our community partners at Cox provided a meaningful surprise by sending personalized, handwritten notes of encouragement to our students.

As the students prepared to head home, they were handed these “personalized reminders of their worth”. This small but significant gesture had a massive impact on the room; students were eager to share their messages and talk about how the words made them feel. By reinforcing positive self-esteem and reminding our youth that they are seen and supported by the wider Atlanta community, partners like Cox help create an environment where students feel capable of achieving great things.

Building the Future Together

From the focused silence of a Rubik’s Cube workshop to the joyful energy of reading words of support, April was a month of building foundations. At Girls Inc. of Greater Atlanta, we are proud to provide the space where practical skills and emotional encouragement meet, ensuring every girl knows she has the tools—and the village—to lead a bold life.
