Money, Moves, & Mindsets: Empowering Teens Through Financial Literacy
At Girls Inc. of Greater Atlanta, we believe that empowerment begins with a strong foundation. This March, our GLOW and Project Accelerate participants dove into our “Money, Moves, & Mindsets” theme—a comprehensive look at financial literacy, intentional decision-making, and the importance of community impact.
Financial Literacy: Beyond the Piggy Bank
During our Empowerment Saturday, students tackled the essential distinction between needs vs. wants. These weren’t just theoretical conversations; our girls explored how to align their future career goals with both profitability and purpose.
To symbolize their commitment to financial independence, participants designed personal piggy banks. This hands-on activity served as a tangible reminder that every large goal starts with small, consistent habits. By teaching these wealth-building mindsets early, we are ensuring our girls are prepared to navigate the economic realities of adulthood with confidence.
Service Saturday: Leading with Compassion
Financial empowerment is only half of the equation; the other half is community responsibility. Our Project Accelerate participants continued their impactful tradition of service by partnering with Grace Community Fellowship Church.
The girls spent the day packing and distributing food to members of Atlanta’s unhoused community. This consistent partnership allows our teens to practice servant leadership, demonstrating that true success is measured by how we show up for others.
Mindsets for the Future
Through this blend of classroom learning and community action, Girls Inc. girls are building the habits necessary to lead lives that are both financially secure and community-focused.
